Think Crime! (2nd Edition)

Using Evidence, Theory and CPTED for Planning Safer Cities
Dr Paul Cozens, Co-Director, Design Out Crime Research Centre
"The best available synthesis of information on crime prevention through environmental design." Professor Marcus Felson, Texas State University
About the book

A practical guide grounded in evidence, not just principles

Written by Dr Paul Cozens, Think Crime! shows CPTED professionals how to build effective, evidence-based crime prevention programs — using crime data, risk assessment, and criminological theory rather than just applying design checklists. It's used both as a practitioner's reference and as a set text for a 12-week CPTED course, suited to students, planners, architects, police, security professionals, and local government.

The book covers questions practitioners actually face:

  • How do I use CPTED more effectively, and which theories apply where?
  • What crime data do I need, and how do I collect and interpret it?
  • How do I run a formal Crime Risk Assessment or CPTED Audit?
  • How can I justify crime prevention plans with solid evidence?
  • How can CPTED be taught as a structured 12-week course?
